Lana Del Rey has achieved her second number 1 album on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. ‘Lust For Life’, released on July 21 via Polydor/Interscope Records, has earned 107,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 27. 80,000 of these were in traditional album sales.

Lana’s first and previous album number 1 was for her second major studio album ‘Ultraviolence’ in 2014. Overall, ‘Lust For Life’ is her fifth top 10 charting album. ‘Born to Die’ reached No. 2 in 2012, following the Paradise EP at No. 10. In 2015, ‘Honeymoon’ also reached No. 2.

Billboard writes:

Lana Del Rey scores her second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart, as Lust for Life bows atop the Aug. 12-dated tally. The set, which was released on July 21 through Polydor/Interscope Records, earned 107,000 equivalent album units in the week ending July 27, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 80,000 were in traditional album sales.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Aug. 12-dated chart (where Del Rey debuts at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard’s websites later in the day on Aug. 2.

Following closely behind Del Rey are Tyler, The Creator’s Flower Boy and Meek Mill’s Wins and Losses, as they debut at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. Flower Boy earned 106,000 units (with 70,000 in album sales), while Wins and Losses tallied 102,000 units (with 37,000 in album sales). Industry forecasters expected a close race among the three albums, with any of them potentially finishing on top. All three albums actually performed better than expected.

Today Lana Del Rey stopped by KROQ, an alternative rock radio station, to give an interview on The Kevin and Bean Show. In the interview, she spoke about her amazing fans, the new record, working with Stevie Nicks

Check out the highlights below, but be sure to check out the full interview here.

On handling fans saying her music saved her life
“It’s a big thing. I absorb it and I keep it. I take it in but I keep it light. I try and take the lightness from it. Music was a big part of my life when I was a teenager too, not that they’re all teenagers.”

On working with Stevie Nicks and if she was nervous
“Not at the time. Not when she came into the studio. I was more nervous than I thought I would be when she came in. I could totally call her. I have to say it’s one of these amazing career and life things where I do consider her a friend and I love her. You never really know with women how it’s going to go, but she just wanted to be there right away. She sent flowers after the track was done, got me a present for my birthday… it’s funny because she’s the one who’s so legendary but she’s the one who really put all the extra effort in and didn’t make anything hard clearance-wise.”

“She asked me to re-sing something, and then I got on the microphone in this booth I’m not usually in, because I usually just sing in the middle of the room, but I was trying to be professorial and do it in the booth. She just wanted me to do my ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ over and my first a was like [Lana sings a small out of tune ‘aahhhh’] and she didn’t say anything, and I said something stupid like ‘oh god that sounds so small next to your ahhs’ and she was like ‘it’s okay you can be my little echo.'”

On how Lust For Life differs from her previous records
“It felt different. I was glad that the general vibe of it didn’t end up being too different from the first few records I did. The melodies and the production were just following what I had been thinking about for the last year and a half. I thought I knew where the record was going and then 14 months into it, it took a turn for me stylistically so I wasn’t really sure where I was going to end up. But I really love it, I’ve got a couple of songs on there like ‘Coachella’ that I love the production for or a song called ‘Cherry’ – again I love the kind of bluesy vibe and the production, so I’m happy with where it went.”

On releasing unreleased songs which she first announced at Amoeba
“I might just release some of those songs because I love them.”

Sean Lennon recently spoke to Paper Magazine about his experience working with Lana Del Rey and how featuring on her new record came about. You can read what he said below.

You also worked with Lana Del Rey on her new album, Lust for Life. How did that happen?

I was producing the Insecure Men album at my studio and I got a call from Lana, which really surprised me because we had never met, and I was a big fan of hers. She called me and said, “I have a song that I want you to work on with me.” I said, sure, and she sent me her vocal with a guitar and an organ. It was very minimal, but the song was already very good. I remember thinking “Her voice sounds so beautiful and rich and textured that I need to get a better vocal mic.” I was too scared to sing on the same song as her with one of my shitty microphones. So I called an engineer friend of mine, I said “Listen, you gotta help me, I gotta do this song tomorrow or the next day- I need a good vocal mic.” And he hooked me up with his friend [who let me use a mic Johnny Cash sang through.]

I’m really excited because my whole life I never really bothered to get a good mic because I never really considered myself a singer. So I sang through this mic and it really felt like it changed my life. I had never heard my voice sound that good.

I sat and I re-harmonized the song and I played every instrument I could think of – drums, timpani, upright bass, guitar, acoustic guitars, keyboard, strings. I essentially muted the music that she had sent which I was a little nervous about, but it wasn’t that what she sent wasn’t working, it was that it wasn’t in the same harmonization that I was doing. I sent it back to her and she said it’s perfect! The first time.

I don’t think magically, I’m very scientific minded, but it felt like the universe was reaching down and giving me a nice gift because it really felt like a blessing out of nowhere and I’m very happy about it.

Lennon features on the track titled “Tomorrow Never Came” from Lust For Life.
